The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is an odd addition to the holiday movie genre that twists the horror of Halloween and the joy of Christmas. The Nightmare Before Christmas begins with an introduction to where holidays come from (apparently the insides of trees) and we meet the citizens of the town called "Halloween" in the middle of a song introducing what Halloween is.
Burton develops his story in odd ways making this seem like a romance, musical, comedy, and holiday film all rolled into one by introducing love interests, having characters make ridiculous assumptions, along with adding jolly and eerie music to the film. The Nightmare Before Christmas also features narration by an unknown person who appears only at the start and end of the film for a kind of wrap around effect. The film is a stop motion claymation oddly enough meaning that its a compilation of pictures put together to give the effect of stationary objects moving it is very cool.
The protagonist Jack Skellington seems to always get into trouble trying to do the right thing while he is just trying to get out of his daily routine. The Nightmare Before Christmas is just as much a musical as anything else, many scenes involve songs that range from joyful Christmas songs to eerie Halloween songs that sets the mood for the chapter.
